Reporting to the Project Controls Specialist, the Cost Controls Analyst is responsible for capital project governance and management through closely monitoring of project financial, schedule, and scope controls, preparing quality project reporting, providing well researched advice and estimates to the Project Controls Specialist and Construction Manager.

The Responsibilities
  • Work with Project Team to develop and update a Work Breakdown Structure ( WBS) to sub divide project contracts, scopes, tasks, and deliverables into manageable components
  • Understand various scopes-of-work, durations and resources required for each contractor to maintain targeted milestones; and communicate inter-discipline Critical Paths during construction based on consolidated schedules
  • Support the capital project team as in managing high impact cost items and in identifying and providing solution on expenditure problems
  • Work closely with site Warehouse team to ensure proper WBS coding
  • Ensure the project control requirements are properly defined and implemented by the Project Team specifically contractors
  • Collect and vet daily, contractor site Labour-Equipment-Material sheets for sign-off and file to the Jay Project Document Controls system
  • Track daily site costs to support the vetting of monthly contractor invoice submissions
  • Track contractor and Project Team site labour and equipment resources
  • Contribute and deliver as a member of the Project Team in the form of facilitation, coordination, review and documentation with the Project Manager and Project Team in any budget development or reforecast of cost and activities is required
  • Coordinate Change Management activities to manage works scope with the Project Team; communicate and support contractors on site in adhering to the company’s change management process and templates
  • Understand contractor agreements and dollar values related to base lined scope;
  • Prepare reports, analysis and recommendations for use by Project Controls Specialist, Construction Manager and Project Team to facilitate decision making at any level of the organization that include, at a minimum, the following:
    • Coordinate collection of schedule updates on site;
    • Progress reporting ( all aspects);
    • Cost distribution analysis;
    • Cost variance analysis and reporting;
    • Financial and contractual commitments;
    • Project status;
    • Risk registers review and
    • Forecasts, budget updates and requests for budget changes
The Requirements
  • Post-Secondary degree in a related discipline ( e.g. Business, Finance or Accounting).
  • Working toward a chartered professional accountant designation or Project Management Professional designation
  • Minimum of two ( 2) years of progressive experience in project cost and schedule control or in a Finance role
  • Experience in major capital projects as an owner or representative strongly preferred
  • Experience with engineering and construction based cost systems ( productivity, performance measurement, progress tracking, etc.) preferred
  • Experience with project control tracking/forecasting/scheduling systems
  • Advanced knowledge of project control principles, audits and practices
  • Knowledge on relevant SAP modules would be considered an asset

The Cost Controls Analyst will be required to have excellent collaboration skills and deep understanding of change management methodology. The successful candidate will have the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships across functions, be influential and take initiative through using their strong verbal and written communication skills. The successful candidate will have exceptional analytical and problem solving skills as well as the ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information with tact and diplomacy. Accuracy and attention to detail is vital.

This role will initially be Yellowknife based, with a transition to Ekati mine site based as the project advances towards construction. We offer an excellent compensation and comprehensive benefits program, and relocation assistance is available.
