JOB OVERVIEW

As the Senior Analyst, Benchmarking, you are the direct support to the Major Projects (MP) Benchmarking initiative. The deliverables support Suncor best practices including project selection, actual project performance, and long term sustainment of project performance for trending purposes. The job offers opportunities to improve your Project Management skills, as well as learn new ones.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Global corporate Project Controls (PC) focal point for supporting cost management, planning, scheduling, progress measurement and reporting
  • Executing data gathering, analysis, visualization, and report development; extracting meaning from complicated data sets.
  • Collaborate in the development of large and complex PC benchmarking closeout deliverables with completed and accurate documentation
  • Plan, organize, direct, perform, review, and present project benchmarking information to various stakeholders
  • Provide liaison and guidance to estimating, project teams, construction & productivity, project management office and any other project intelligence stakeholders on matters relating to project benchmarking metrics
  • A key focal point for implementing PC continuous improvement related to project controls and the alignment to benchmarking requirements
  • Assist in the development and updating of project controls standards, procedures, work practices
  • Understand and provide governance to Suncor Asset Development Execution Model (ADEM)
  • Provide services to support gate reviews, implementation audits, and general consulting
  • Identify potential benchmarking process and tool opportunities and make recommendations regarding their impact to projects and any of the functional areas supporting projects
  • Promote awareness of relevant current Suncor standard and procedures, project controls processes, and tools
  • Assist in establishing and delivering training in any aspects of project controls and benchmarking
  • Assume benchmarking mentorship role for other project team members

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Certified Engineering Technologist in Operations Management or Engineering, or B. Sc. in Engineering, High school diploma (with 15+ years of experience), Bcom. or CPA
  • Estimating, Cost or Planning Certification will be considered an asset

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Creative, scientific mind, with the ability to understand factual data and populate the templates to support project benchmarking
  • A solid understanding of all Project management definitions and metrics
  • Have the ability to search thru existing documentation extracting the relevant key data
  • Demonstrate ability to organize data in a database style format, and formulate it into creating effective information
  • Reconcile data to support factual outcomes,
  • Incumbent will learn normalization of data to support similar project comparisons
  • Must be able to interpret relevant engineering and construction drawings to substantiate analysis
  • Knowledge in Project Management procedures and planning will be considered an asset. Most of the effort will revolve around following the Project Closeout Standard, with detailed analysis, and reporting
  • Research project schedules, and project change notices to call out variances within the execution strategy in support of normalizing the data
  • Lead the discussion with mixed project teams, and possess good interpersonal skills and be an effective communicator who thrives on the challenge presented by a rapid change environment
  • Demonstrate good report writing skills
  • A solid understanding of the document management systems, and search capabilities
  • A good technical understanding of oil and gas upstream, midstream, and downstream assets
  • Highly proficient with the full range of MS Office Suite (including database development using Access) applications, and knowledgeable with discipline specific applications such as MS Project, Primavera, Prism, EcoSys
